Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to those who celebrate other special days.
We are having a very quiet and peaceful day here.
This year we once again decided to buy needed household items for ourselves as gifts, but to do it a bit differently. I gifted Attila small kitchen items, and Attila gifted me food items. These items were wrapped and placed under the tree, so that we had gifts to surprise each other this morning. It has been many years since we have opened wrapped gifts. Ginger was happy to receive the wrapping paper, playing with crumpled balls of it, and happily nestled, Buddha like, on the larger pieces. He thinks this Christmas thing has some merit.
This morning we went for an early morning walk in the fog, and drizzling rain. This afternoon we went for a walk in the bright sunshine, not having to bundle up as the temperature was a balmy 11C.
Attila has the turkey in the oven, and the vegetables ready to cook. I made Mincemeat Squares yesterday for our dessert today. We love candy at Christmas, and this year we each have a Lindt 70% Cocoa bar of chocolate. These bars were gifted to us at the grocery store a few months ago. I was not sure I would like this dark chocolate, but my concern was groundless, it is lovely.
The turkey we are having for dinner is very large, 20 pounds. This is a lot of turkey for two people. Last spring the local grocery store offered the previous seasons frozen Christmas turkeys for $20 each. We bought three of the largest turkeys. The smallest one we enjoyed at Thanksgiving. Now we are enjoying a larger one for Christmas dinner. There is so much turkey that we have decided to can Turkey Pot Pie using the pressure canner; that will be our Boxing Day activity. Some of the meat will be diced and frozen for casseroles, the bones will be used to make soup stock. And we will be eating turkey leftovers for dinner for the rest of 2023!
I love a turkey sandwich with mayonnaise and Cranberry Orange Sauce, that I canned last month.
I’ve been slowly working on my new apron since harvest and preserving season slowed down. I finished it a few days ago and I am wearing it for the first time today, Christmas Day.
I hope you are having a peaceful and enjoyable day today. Sending you our very best wishes, from our house to yours!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and good tidings for the coming year.
Thank you Wendy! Wishing you and yours all the very best of the season, and a happy and prosperous 2024.
Best Christmas wishes Maggie. What a delightful day you had! Small pleasures and treats are the best I find.
That’s a very cute apron! I like the turtles! May 2024 be fortunate for you and all of your family!
Sandra, wishing you and yours the very best of the season! You are so right about small pleasures and treats!
Thank you Joan, I love the turtles too, and the bright colours! Wishing you and yours all the very best of the Holiday Season!
Nice apron! And such a fun colorful pattern.
We had a good, quiet Christmas. After running around a lot this last week, I’m glad for quiet. But I’m especially thankful for the relatively reasonable weather. We drove through a little snow during the week but it was always warm enough that we never had to worry about the roads getting slippery.
It sounds like the three of you had a nice Christmas. Like Ginger, our girl dog Skye loves presents and wrapping paper. She was so excited when it’s finally time to unwrap things and she and Loki tuckered themselves out with a new ball that has flashing LED lights.
Enjoy the last week of 2023! Have you set a date yet for Attila’s retirement?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Attila and Ginger!
Thanks Teri, I love the colours!
Your Christmas sounds lovely. We haven’t had to deal with much in the way of snow either, and driving conditions have been really good. I hope the road safe weather holds firm for most of the winter.
Skye and Loki sound like lots of fun at play.
We haven’t set a date for retirement yet, still weighing pros and cons of the different factors, so much to think about, and I am sure we are missing something, just hoping it isn’t something vital, lol. Have a great week!
Thanks Eileen! I hope you had a lovely Christmas, and that the new year brings you peace and prosperity!
