On Friday last I was “layed off” from my full time job. I must go back for one day, tomorrow, to assist the company Controller with taking over the office. I am not to be replaced. I have felt better about going to the dentist for a root canal, than I do about going back to that office for even a few hours. That phase of the break will be over soon though, just not soon enough!

In the meantime I have been offered a few hours work here and there on an on-call basis, not as an employee. So, for instance, this week, I am working at four different places, all long drives from home, all with different sets of computer passwords, security procedures and sets of idiosyncratic issues. Come Saturday night I think I might need a stiff drink!

If only I drank.

This is what the average retiree in Canada has to look forward to, people will certainly be dying with their boots on! The soles will be worn through, but the boots will be on.

On the bright side, I will no longer be sitting in a chair, experiencing high levels of stress, for eight and a half hours straight every day. The on-call jobs I am working this week require me to be on my feet and moving around vigorously for the hours that I work. I will be tired, but ultimately much healthier.

I suppose this will all work out, but sitting here looking at my schedule for the next six days, I feel somewhat overwhelmed.
