Forest Fires

It doesn’t come as a surprise, but that doesn’t make it any less upsetting.

Attila says we haven’t had an adequate rainfall here since June 11.

Things are tinder dry. There are dead and dying trees all over the landscape.

And the forest fires we feared are here, well not at our house, but within miles of our house, too close for comfort as far as I am concerned.

There is a lovely park in Milford Bay, Muskoka, called Huckleberry Rock. We have hiked there from time to time. A fire started there today, cause as yet unknown, and they are getting it under control now. When we hike there we frequently see the charred remains of campfires and broken beer bottles, but it would be hard to imagine anyone going up there in a heat wave to have a campfire and drink beer on a Tuesday afternoon.

Attila is moving my boxes of family pictures to the family room, I have made a list of valuables we could not do without and we are preparing to leave quickly if we are evacuated. But evacuation is not imminent or likely, the Milford Bay fire does not threaten us directly at this time. However, with no rain in sight, there might well be more fires, even though there is a fire ban some people are ignoring it and having camp fires, lighting fireworks.

Rain, rain, rain!

Wishing you all the best to avoid any emergency evacuation.

It is good you are being prepared. I hope rain comes soon and above all, that you and your family are safe.
