We have had a dusting of snow, which clung to the corners of the yard and deck, out of the reach of the brief appearances of the sun.
The masonry heater, which was quite cool when we arrived back after a visit to the little house in the city, is emanating warmth. Mist the Kitty is content, happy even. She loves her morning routine. When I venture out into the kitchen in the morning, she takes up her position by her bowl, ready for her portion of fresh milk. She doesn’t drink it though, she sniffs the bowl, to make sure the milk is there. Then she wanders over to the blinds, and waits patiently for them to open. But at this time of year it is dark when we rise, so that opening the blinds merely cools down the room, and does not offer a view; the blinds stay closed. After giving up on the blinds, Mist hops onto the couch, to wait for Attila. He will sit beside her in the morning, sipping his coffee and brushing her coat, as we chat. She loves to be brushed. She loves it when we spend time together, and she can sit with us. She is such a happy and contented cat… when she gets what she wants that is. Which is most of the time!
Computer Geekiness Again
Installing a new operating system on one computer in the house has been like opening a can of worms. All sorts of wiggle events are going on, all over the place, on all three computers! All of this is sort of under control, but one thing leads to another, which leads to another, and so it goes, on and on.
Last night I discovered that one of my websites had received over 29000 email messages, via an outdated version of server side software. Those spammers are busy little &^$^&(($__! These little dispatches all wanted to come home, to my computer, it took hours and hours of downloading. Then it took hours and hours of sorting, and deleting, carefully so as not to lose the important messages mixed in with the spam. And that was not the end of it. Next I checked the server and there they all were, the original copies, lurking! So, with a little bit of advice from the server techs, and many hours of my time, all of those miserable missives are finally dead and gone.
I then decided to update the server side software, the original source of those 29000 messages, and finally decided that it wasn’t worth the effort. That software wasn’t doing anything important in the general scheme of things, and it needed frequent updating. Too much effort for too little gain. It took a few hours to purge all the files, of all the references to the software. That is done now.
I haven’t been happy with the performance of the new version of Mail.app, so I decided to switch to Thunderbird. What a transition! I have a lot of email addresses, associated with my various projects. They all had to be migrated over to the new software. That is done and dusted. Thunderbird just works, out of the box, no surprises. Gotta love it.
And it is Tuesday, how did it get to be Tuesday already!
No matter, Wednesday is a good day to come up for air.
