At 2 a.m. this morning Luna arose and wakened the Grandbabies. Right now, 6:27 a.m., they are all somewhere out over the Atlantic Ocean, destination Ireland.
Luna called last night to say a last brief goodbye, as she was getting ready to sleep, if she could. They are all very excited about their upcoming residence in Ireland. They will be back in late September, or early October. This is an annual migration for them now, winters in Canada, summers in Ireland. Janus is an international airline pilot, and this is one of the perks of his job.
Here at little house in the city, I await a message from Lares, telling me that Terra has come through her surgery successfully. It isn’t a big worry, but I will breath easier when I’ve heard she is OK. Terra is going through some health related issues right now, that are life changing, but not life threatening. She handles it well most of the time, but occasionally she tires of it all, and just needs us to be patient and loving. It is easy to love Terra, she has such a big heart.
On the domestic scene, I continue to purge and organize. The house is a complete tip! I have a pile of things to go to the Goodwill, to the dump, and to the restore, piled by the front door. There are mountains of items all over the place, still needing to be sorted.
I did manage to consolidate all the toys we have here. I am loath to get rid of them, even though the Grandbabies will be soon be past finding them interesting. Right now they are all gathered into a huge tote, which takes up a lot of space.
Today I am organizing the canning equipment, and possibly the basement. Attila partially dismantled a particle board closet down in the basement, and the job needs to be finished before we move a significant portion of our belongings to the little house in the city.
Yesterday the country house had another showing. We have had no feedback on that showing yet. The realtor accidentally locked the key he had in the house, when he was busy ensuring that Mist did not get out of the house. Luckily Attila was working nearby, and was over to the house in a flash to let the realtor, and potential buyers, into the house for a viewing.
The weather has turned cooler, I have adjusted the thermostat to heat the house when the interior temperature falls below 16C. So far the system has not turned itself on, and if we get sun every day, it probably won’t. The south facing windows here let in a lot of sun, which provides a good amount of heat. In the summer, when I don’t want the heat, I close the drapes against the sun. Right now I do want the heat, so the drapes are thrown wide open.
I will be watering the garden every other day for the next week, as no rain is predicted. Today I would like to spray a long sleeved shirt and a pair of work trousers with the mosquito repelling mixture. It is still quite windy though, so perhaps this afternoon the wind will die down and I can get the job done. I must do it outside, and use a mask. The chemical bonds with the cloth fibres as it dries, and after that it is inert, resisting repeated washings.
This morning it is a mere 6C out there. I donned all my gear to protect myself from the mosquitoes, as I prepared to head outside and water the tomatoes and the basil. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was too cold for the mosquitoes!

It sounds as if the little house in the city is becoming more and more your home, which is a good thing. I suspect Attila will be content anywhere you are that you consider home–during the few hours he’s not working!
Will Diesel be re-joining you at the little house?
Is that outside thermometer in both celcius and farenheit? I’d like to get one that is so it would be easy for me to convert quickly.
Ireland! How lucky they are! I have never been and never will go, but I’ve seen enough shows made there to feel like I have!
The little house is feeling more like home all the time Wendy! Attila likes it here at the little house, and after the horrendous heating season last winter, I think he is more than ready to pass the wood heating rituals onto someone with more time to spare for domestic tasks. 🙂
I had assumed I would ask for Diesel to come back to stay with me immediately, but I fear that, with tearing the place apart to purge and organize, he would find it all disconcerting, and might possibly be in the way. I will have to see if things settle down here at the little house, before fetching him. Maybe by next week I will have managed to get things straightened out here, will have made all my trips to the dump, and the recycling stores.
Why, yes it is Bex! The thermometer reads both Celsius and Fahrenheit. Canada switched from Fahrenheit to Celsius a few decades ago, so oldies like me are still making the switch in our heads.
Yes, they are all pretty excited to be going there to live. Apparently they will be supplied with a furnished two-bedroom apartment, so housing is something they don’t have to think about. I’d love to go, they have invited us, but we have neither time nor money for such an adventure.
Sending Terra healing wishes from her surgery. Hope she is up and about very quickly!
Our temp made it down to 2C (36F) last night. Chilly!
That’s quite the change for Luna and family, moving countries every 6 months. I hope it doesn’t interfere with the children’s education. Then again, children have gone thru more upheaval than that and done well.
I haven’t heard from Lares yet, she may not have gone in until late this afternoon. I think I will call him this evening if I haven’t heard from him, they may be busy digesting the outcome of the surgery right now.
Luna has kept in close contact with the school and arrangements have been made! The Grandbabies each have a tablet, and a web site has been setup so that they can communicate daily with their classroom teacher and classmates. Technology changes so many things!
I just got a call from Terra, she is fine and on her way home from the hospital. The surgery was successful, and there will be extensive follow-ups for her for the next year or so.
When we were talking I said, “I wasn’t really worried.”
“That’s a lie,” she laughed. She is right of course, it was!
Glad to hear things went well and that Terra’s now heading home. Day surgery lessens the concerns, that’s for sure.
Sending you both hugs.
Open windows, yahoo!
Glad Terra is doing well. Wish her the best.
Breezy kitchen curtains trigger memories for me like the slam of a screen door. Takes me back to gentler times of wonderment.
Hi Maggie,
The type of purging and organizing you are doing reminds me of a phrase a dear friend and I used when we did something similar. We called it ‘deep ecology’. Getting down to brass tacks. It feels good though. Every day you get closer to the goals of living more comfy at the little house.
Luna and Janus winter in Canada and summer in Ireland how special is that!
I am glad to know that Terra is well.
The realtor locking the key in the house…..good thing Attila was nearby. We locked the key in the home we rented in Florida the first week we had moved there. The realtor came and let us in and charged us $25!
Cooler weather there and here as well. I’m loving it.
I’m enjoying the photos that you weave into your entries. What a beautiful, sunny iris.
Kate, Terra is reading the blog lately, so she will appreciate your well wishes!
Open windows are wonderful! Too cold right now though, frost warning tonight, Friday night.
Irene, you put it so well, how these little sounds, movements, can take us back to such happy times!
Nora, what a great phrase, “deep ecology”. My process is slow because I want to recycle everything, waste nothing. I have been selling and giving away items on kijiji, and packing items in boxes for the Goodwill.
It was fortunate that Attila was available to let the realtor in!
