The weather has moved along from the heat and humidity of this past week, and we find ourselves experiencing a perfect day, weather wise. The overnight low was 9C, which is perfect for sleeping from where I stand. Attila finds this a bit cool for comfort, but it suits me to a tee.
We are getting ready to move some of our belongings to the little house in the city. I have been packing seldom used items, like books, and archived genealogical documents. This will make a possible move seem more viable, if and when that time comes.
Attila has been ill since Tuesday. He didn’t mention it to me until Thursday night, as his condition was beginning to worsen. It was some form of the flu. His fever broke in the early hours this morning. He is feeling much better today. I always know that if Attila admits to not feeling well, he is really suffering. This was his second bout of flu this summer. I think it is the stress of living in a house that is for sale, always having to keep it ready to show, and not knowing if or when it might sell, or if and when we might be moving. This, combined with slogging it through the heat wave in the hot sun, was just a little bit too much.
So, I decided this morning that if someone wants to see the house this weekend, they will have to take it as it is. I spent the morning cooking up a storm, preparing some of Attila’s favourite foods, which “stink” up the house with strong cooking smells. I have prepared a zucchini and tomato dish, with the last of the tomatoes from our garden, and the largest zucchini from the garden. The last of the dried red and green peppers, and mushrooms, are simmering in a spaghetti sauce.
We will be undertaking no new projects around the house for the next week; it is time for break. It is time to sit in the screened in porch in the evenings, savouring the last of the summer breezes, sipping beverages, chatting about nothing in particular.
Now that I have a plan, it would not surprise me if the universe throws something at us this weekend that we need to deal with immediately. The best laid plans… as they say.

If the universe interrupts your weekend with a willing buyer with ready funding, then great! Otherwise, I hope you have a pleasant and restful few days.
Wendy, that is a win/win proposition! lol
I hope you and yours have a pleasant and restful weekend as well.
(((hugs)))
Thanks Bex, every day that has a hug in it is a good day!
Sounds like a wise decision on your part. The “right” buyers for your house will see themselves living there whether it’s tidy and perfect or not.
Kate, Attila, when he heard my plan, was all for it! Kickin’ back and putting our feet up!
I hope your plans for a restful weekend are not spoiled. (I would think the fragrances of zucchini and tomato cooking would only add to the charm of the house.)
It was also chilly here last night, reaching 8C (47F), but I’m surprised you’re already talking about ghe last of your tomatoes. Maybe it’s just the difference between cherry tomatoes and large ones but I think we’ll still have a few weeks of tomatoes, if it doesn’t get too cool.
Maggie, do you remember a few months ago talking about the anti-slip strips for your outdoor stairs? Do you remember what they were called and where you got them? Now that the dogs sometimes go down to the backyard they’re sometimes slipping on the wooden stairs.
Hope you and Attila have a lovely, restful weekend.
Joan, we love the smell of the zucchini and tomato! Not everyone likes these things though, so we have made an effort to keep the house as bland and neutral as possible for showings. I guess the idea is that the house should look as close to a blank slate for their belongings as is possible. The other part of it is having the crockpot sitting on the counter, the realtor advised us to keep the counters clear for showings.
Teri, our tomatoes had wilt, and also went without watering at various times while we were at the country house, so the plants weren’t healthy. We picked the tomatoes and pulled up the plants, then threw them in the garbage instead of the compost to contain the wilt.
here are the stair treads I bought at homedepot in the garden department (there are comparable products elsewhere in the store for almost twice the price).

In the states realtors recommend having the home smell of baked goods – cookies or bread; some on the counter for potential buyers to nibble on if possible nothing with nuts to avoid allergies.
Glad that you could put your legs up for the weekend! Hubby and I need to get in gear for our migration west in October.
I have read that tip Lee Ann, it sounds like a good idea, but I won’t get to it, I know myself. We don’t eat those kinds of foods very often, cookies, bread, baked goods of any kind, so I would be producing all kinds of food that I would end up eating, gaining a lot of weight, and feeling like crap to boot. Then there is the issue of the number of people coming through, twice a week, a lot of baking. It is summer, baking heats up the house, another down side. LOL, I think I am justifying why I won’t go the baked goods route, although it is a very good tip.
A move west, sounds exciting, and challenging!
Thanks so much for the link, Maggie. Looks like that will do the trick!
