Attila and I have been unable to curtail our contact, and the pay as you go cell phone minutes are fast disappearing! If he does not find work near here in the next week, we will have to find some other way to communicate while he is staying in Camp Tank. An interview is coming up next week, so we have our fingers crossed!
I have managed to clear the kitchen table! This means that for the first time in over a month, we will be able to sit down at a table for a meal. Something very special about that I think, a milestone. I finally found the mixer I use to make bread, and soon I will be back to baking bread.
Since so much of our money has gone to rental trucks, fuel, and cell phone top-ups, we have to economize as much as possible. If Attila changes jobs, we will have a period of time with no money coming in; it is not the best of times for that with the moving expenses mounting up. Still, we will survive. Home baked bread is not a hardship, even if it is a necessity. We will not go hungry!
Attila is scheduled to arrive for supper tonight. As soon as he gets here he will be heading straight for the tub, his first priority upon arrival, where he will enjoy a good long soak.
I continue to find boxes for the kitchen, they are spread all over the house, the main floor and the basement. When I find them in the basement I have to unload and carry the contents upstairs to the kitchen, one item at a time. The boxes are too heavy for me to lift. The kitchen is still a work in progress, and no other room in the house has been tackled so far. This unpacking is going to take some time.
Our Grandbabies were all born in the month of September, all Virgos. We won’t be with them on their birthdays, so I have sent birthday eCards, and some gift eCards from Amazon for them. They have politely sent thank you messages via their mother.
It is amazing how many little bits of things need to be taken care of with a move. We need to find reliable medical care near Mist Cottage. Hospitals are close by, and we will make use of the emergency room services, until such time as a more practical solution presents itself. This is no small task, finding a family doctor. I am very fussy about who I trust with my precious body, and Attila’s. We have been fortunate with the two GPs we have had over the last 22 years, both are excellent and flexible. I asked the GP we have had for the last 11 years to keep us on indefinitely, until such time as we find a suitable replacement, and he has granted us this boon. The search is on.
And now for a completely random set of thoughts. What is this passionate objection to two spaces after a period? This was the business convention for typed communication for decades. I have always left two spaces after a period, and I will continue to type in this way for the rest of my days here on planet earth. If this dates me, then I am dated, and happy to be so. For those who find this type of writing highly offensive, well, I think it is what might be referred to as a “first world problem”. My energy for change will be going towards assisting those who are suffering in this world.
The camera is still hiding! I suspect it is determined to teach me discretion, at least until most of the boxes are unpacked.

Oh so much has changed in writing. I remember a writing course I took, college level. I had to buy an extra book because the rules I remembered had changed! I asked the instructor the when the rules had changed, she laughed. She was a professional editor and said that they were always changing.
I am glad that Attila will be home this weekend. Perhaps he knows where all the kitchen boxes are? This is a reminder to me to label our boxes for the move. Kitchen, master, 2nd, living room, books, dvds, yarn. I think I have it covered.
Lee Ann, so true, language is fluid. I don’t think the rule about spaces after a period changed, but there are those who bitterly bemoan the use of two spaces, as if the practice has ruined their very lives. Tempest in a teapot, in my opinion.
Labeling the boxes is crucial isn’t it! Most of ours are labelled, but they came out of the trucks and got piled to the ceiling in this teeny tiny house. I can’t rummage through them because I can’t lift them to see what is under them. Attila will help with this. The kitchen, for us, is the biggest challenge, as we cook everything from scratch and kept an abundance of raw ingredients in both houses. Having two weeks to move didn’t enhance our chances of an organized move 🙂
We really did not believe we would be moving until the deal was sealed!
Wishing you all the best with your upcoming move!
I also put two spaces after ending a sentence. But I think the computers now-a-days change it to ONE space only. I never see the 2 spaces any more… it all runs together. It’s like language and grammar, it’s all gone with the wind… we are the victims of having lived in the “good old days” of proper writing/typing and “these days” of all this mess. At least we can still chat, though! I pray Attila gets a job soon!
love.
Bex! I hadn’t noticed that the computer changed it at any point. It does not change it in my writing software, but when I look at the entry here, it has been changed. How about that!
Thank you for your prayers Bex, the man is moving heaven and earth to bring himself home.
Without having any sympathy for the debate about end of sentence spacing, I understand that the drop to a single space is the result of proportional fonts and full justification of text and that the single space has been promoted by print editors who are anxious to attract readership through appearance as much, if not more than, content.
Maggie, I’ve been reading your moving saga and wishing you well as it happened. Keeping fingers and paws crossed for you at our house that Attila gets the local job.
Hurray for a cleared kitchen table! Signs of progress are always heartening.
You make a good point about the various costs of moving, including the break between paychecks when changing jobs. Thank goodness some of your bills associated with the country house will be leaving too, so that should help a bit.
Yup, I’m also 2 space person after a sentence. I had noticed sometime ago that Journalscape converts my writing to single space. Ah well, that means I don’t have to bother with changing what I was trained to do. 😉
Wendy, love that comment, “attract readership through appearance as much, if not more than, content”! What a hoot, funny in a black sort of way because it is so tragically true.
Thanks for the fingers and paws crossed on our behalf, 🙂
Teri, luckily I have had five long years of the attempted sale of the country house, so I had worked the bridging into our budget, just in case our dreams came true!
I actually made a half hearted attempt to get my fingers to place only one space after a period, but alas, it completely broke the flow of writing, so I gave up the effort entirely and with relief.
Hi Maggie,
I hope Attila aces the interview and gets the job. I would be so stressed with all that is going on. You seem to be handling it all so well.
I saw the photo of the country house and the room you spent so much time in. Oh, I just loved it! I would miss that.
Good luck finding new doctors. It took us a while. This place is loaded with doctors, clinics, hospitals etc. My very favorite doctor was a man in Florida. he was everybody’s favorite I think. We always had to wait to see him but it was worth it. He never saw more than one patient at a time and never rushed an appointment. He really was into his practice.
Maggie, good for you, with factoring the bridging into your budget. Good job of planning ahead!
