A quiet week here at Mist Cottage. I have been working on my book, and backing up VHS home videos. My goal is to donate the whole VHS player/TV/VHS Tapes system to someone who would enjoy watching it all. Might work, but then again it might not. The old CRT television is getting a bit old, purchased in 2003, it is 13 years old, and already archaic. No wonder humans are drowning themselves, and the rest of life on planet earth, in garbage. But I digress. It would be very nice to get the very large, now unused, CRT television out of the house.
I borrowed the The Number One Ladies Detective Agency series from the library. The last episode was enjoyed this evening. I knew little about Botswana before bumping into this series. I’ve spent quite a few hours since, reading about Botswana, and touring Garbarone with Google Earth. I haven’t “gotten it” yet though, I can see the magic in Africa, but I cannot feel it. I would have to spend some time there I think, to get a feel for the appeal. If I could live a second lifetime, I think that would be on my list of things worth doing.
We took a quick drive over to the library to return the DVD and a library book, dropping them into the after hours shoot. The air was bracing, and very refreshing as it filled my lungs on the short walk from the car to the library door. Autumn is well under way now.
As I write Attila is preparing his “second supper”. Attila eats dinner with me, fairly early in the evening. Sometime before 10:00 p.m. he will prepare a second meal. Most nights he gets up in the wee hours and has a substantial snack. He usually skips breakfast and dives back into sustenance with a large morning snack, a big lunch, and then returns home again to start the cycle over again. Thank goodness he has learned to be quiet during his late night meal, so that he no longer wakes me as he prepares food in the kitchen.

This year, after a hotter-than-usual, and very dry summer, I am welcoming the cool weather. I love sleeping with the window open, and the cold night air coming in!
We have a VHS player and VHS tapes. We never play them but I haven’t yet been able to talk DH into giving them up. We basically never play our DVD’s, either. Instead, we watch movies – old and new – on Netflix, put on our TV by SS32. We bought a blu-ray player to upgrade our DVD items. Blu-ray plays DVDs and it allows us to stream Netflix and a few more channels from the internet.
We’ve had the blu-ray about 3 years now and never bought even one blu-ray disc for it. Maybe we’re finally learning that we don’t watch them enough and not to spend the money.
It’s supposed to be quite cold here tonight, for once. The forecast is for -5C (27F). It feels good even though it feels chilly.
Don’t you wish we could have these guys’ metabolisms? It would be nice to be able to eat good sized meals a few times a day, but usually my meals are much smaller.
Diane, the cooler weather does seem very welcome this fall!
When we lived at the country house the bedrooms were on the second storey of the house, an extra long ladder was needed to gain entry, we enjoyed sleeping with the windows open deep into the autumn there.
Our bedroom is on the ground floor now, and I am too nervous to sleep with the windows open, I hear every noise, and can’t shake off the first hand accounts of night break ins that have been shared with me.
Teri, the VHS tapes we have represent programming we enjoyed, and would love to enjoy again. At the time VHS tapes were the only option available for home viewing, no more expensive than going out for the evening, less expensive because we didn’t have to worry about childcare expenses. I don’t think I anticipated how quickly the technology would be archaic, if we had realized we would have just hired a babysitter and gone out to the movies!
It is hard to contemplate giving up the tapes, but the decision to live in a very small space has a few drawbacks, and having to give up bulky unused items is one of them.
It was cold here last night too. I love the colder weather, but I find that now I must wear the knee warmer my Mom knit for me, or the arthritis in my knee acts up. Still, the autumn chill in the air feels wonderful in the lungs.
Oh yes! I do with we could have these guys’ metabolisms! My body maintains its weight no matter what I eat, only agreeing to gain more if I take in a lot of extra calories, but never giving up an ounce.
My body never gives up an ounce either!!! In fact, it adds ounces willy-nilly and we are not amused!
I have dreams of cleaning out our VHS tapes, too. It would be lovely to have some freed-up storage space in this house!
Bex, I agree, we are not amused! 🙂
The VHS tapes take up a lot of room. I read that they deteriorate over time, don’t know if it is true, but it would seem a shame to be storing a large volume of tapes that don’t function anymore! I have been going through mine, and they are all good so far, with one exception, which was a used tape we bought when the local video store went out of business, so it could have been damaged when we got it, I can’t remember it was that long ago.
