The cold snap is finally over. We can see patches of brown grass now, here and there, where there was only white yesterday. The snow banks are still significant, but they will not last long.
We had a lovely quiet weekend. We made croutons, went for walks in the sun, sat on the back porch in the sun, baked sourdough bread, and just hung out at home.
I crochet every day, and it is coming easier and easier. I am still on the first stitch I learned, the single crochet stitch. I won’t be moving beyond that for a while yet, I want to my hands to learn it, muscle memory, and that takes time to develop.
This is my second washcloth. I didn’t drop or add any stitches this time, as far as I can tell. I can see that there are places where the tension is uneven, but that will improve with practice. I gave this washcloth to Attila, he likes it. I kept the first one to use myself, the imperfect one that has dropped stitches is not pretty, but it is perfectly functional.
This is my third washcloth. I feel it is an improvement over my first two efforts. It certainly worked up a lot quicker than the first two!
This is my third washcloth again, showing the single crochet border I added. It took me quite a while to figure out how to do the border, I had a video to follow, but right handed. I find trying to do things backwards from a demonstration very difficult. But eventually, after trial and error, I got it. The ending wasn’t great, it was hard to figure out because I started and ended at a corner. This was how the video tutorial that I watched did it. Later I observed another tutorial and she started a few stitches in from the corner, and it was much easier to figure out how to end it that way… next time!

The washcloth look very pretty. I like the spring colors. I don’t know a thing about crocheting, but the rows and edges look very even. I used to knit years ago and found it very relaxing.
Looks like a mostly warm week ahead. We’ll see if that forecast lasts. But tomorrow is the first day of spring so we should be able to hold onto that warmer weather sometime soon.

Thanks Sandy, the bright colour appealed to me, I am a sucker for bright. I learned to crochet and knit in Brownies, that is a long time ago. The experience was not a positive one, and I produced small square samples of the basic stitch for my badges. Now, many decades later, I am giving it another go, this time slow and steady, learning with videos and tutorials. For me, this is definitely the way to go. I don’t follow one video, but watch close to a dozen or more on any one element of the process. It is amazing how many different approaches and techniques are out there. And so I slowly go. It is very relaxing, unless I am learning from videos, that is a grit my teeth and keep going part of it, at least for now. I think if I keep at it, eventually my brain will automatically “see it backwards”, and I won’t even be aware of it, but it is a long road to reach that point.
Knitting I find similar to crocheting, but much harder to do. Knitting opens up a whole new world of possibilities, the scope of knitting projects seems much broader to me than those of crochet.
Teri, it does look like winter has reached an end, although we could still get a rogue snow storm, which would melt away quickly. The first day of spring! How welcome that is.
Thanks for the encourgement on the crocheting. I look at all the work shared by other crocheters and I see how skilled they are, and it is impressive. My projects will be more modest, but I think I enjoy it as much as anyone!

I love these colours, they are the leftover yarns from the Moorland Blanket project I ordered from England. I never made the whole blanket, just small things using the yarns, and this only has 3 colours… but it could be a hat for a man or a woman. I found a pattern on youtube and it’s so easy that I can do it from memory now. Here is my other hat using the Caron Cakes striping yarn along with the scarf I’d made with same yarn last week:

I have a small vase in the kitchen near the sink and we keep dishwasher machine soap pods in it. I had a plastic bag over the top to keep bits of flying water out of it as the pods disintegrate in the washer so didn’t want them getting splashed… I am sick of the plastic bag over it and plan to make a small 5″ in diameter crocheted “hat” for it! Just a round flat piece and then crochet around the sides without increasing for about 6 rows to form the edges.
