Surprises vary in their desirability. Some surprises are big and happy, some are big and sad. Some surprises are little and annoying, and other surprises are little and add warmth to existence.
My day started with a surprise. Fast asleep, I suddenly awoke as I felt a trickle of blood begin to run down my cheek, a nosebleed. There was no indication yesterday or last night that my nose was experiencing distress, so that this nosebleed came as a complete surprise.
I found it interesting that my sleeping mind recognized the physical experience and brought me to a waking state before the trickle hit the pillow. I made to the bathroom sink in time to contain the dripping in the sink, while Attila assisted me by bringing me a tissue paper.
I checked my blood pressure, it was normal, so that wasn’t the problem. The only factor we could think of was the ceiling fan, which we have been running at night, dried out my nasal passage to the point that it cracked and resulted in the nose bleed.
The season has begun, and the heat has not been turned on yet!
When I looked at the thermostat early this morning, in the hallway, it read 18C. This is not toasty, but it isn’t chilling either. Outside the thermometer read 4C. We are maintaining what heat we have generated since the newly installed windows plugged the hole in the wall.
Attila did get the first round of mudding on the drywall last night. Tonight he has chosen to work on the exterior, preparing the trim for the window, and perhaps installing it.
Attila likes to do most of the cooking. I am less fussy than he is about marks on vegetables, so that he prefers to prepare food himself, to ensure that the “bad” stuff does not make into the dish, particularly in regard to vegetables. I am good with that. When we are in the midst of a renovation project, I take over in the kitchen. Tonight I am preparing dinner. We will have my Tomato Red Pepper Sauce with spaghetti noodles, with a vegetable on the side. It will be a canned vegetable, so Attila will experience no stress wondering if I have missed some bad spots on the beans!
This afternoon my new hard drive arrived, 4TB. It is so tiny! I am now in the process of copying my files from the My Cloud 4TB drive to the new hard drive, this could take all night! I don’t like the My Cloud, the files cannot be searched, so that I had to index the drive with Neofinder. When I do find a file I want on My Cloud with Neofinder, it takes minutes, not seconds, for the file to open on my computer. I’ve been working on my book and all my genealogy research files are on the My Cloud drive, it has been taking me forever to do simple things, like copy an image file to a folder so that I can include it in the book. By tomorrow I will be up and running with the new backup drive, and will probably put the My Cloud drive away and try to forget it exists. The My Cloud is the among the worst purchasing decisions, in relation to technology, that I have ever made.
One very significant discovery for me today. Someone on Facebook mentioned C-SPAN, what a relief it is to hear the officials speak at source, rather than the garbled news stories churned out by reporters! Not that everything you hear is necessarily true, it is just that there are fewer layers on the onion of reality, when information comes from C-SPAN.
Another pleasant day is drawing to a close here at Mist Cottage. Attila has stopped his banging with the hammer, peace has descended. Supper is almost ready. My crocheting and my book wait patiently for me beside my easy chair. Life is good.

I maybe repeating myself, but I grew up having nosebleeds, as did my Dad. At age 19, I got a bad one and was working at New England Deaconess Hospital at the time, and went to see the ENT doc there and he cauterized it for me. No big deal. He sent me home to recuperate for the afternoon and it was all over. I have never had another nosebleed since that day. It’s usually just a tiny blood vessel with a weak spot on it and cauterization does the trick. For me anyway!
I do remember you saying so Bex, and I keep thinking I should talk to one of the doctors at the walk in clinic about it. It would be lovely to never have another nose bleed, I hate them! If I don’t ask it won’t happen, I think I need to start a list! Another list 🙂
I’ll jump on the bandwagon to encourage you to put talking to the doctor about nosegleeds on your list. If it can be taken care of then it’s one less worrisome thing off your plate.
*grin* I’m afraid I’m the fussy one at our place that isn’t thrilled with blemishes on veggies. But DH is the one who prefers to do most of the cooking, though I usually do the holiday meals. He does the everyday cooking, I do the baking – except for bread. DH likes baking bread.
Teri, it is now on my list. Time for the blood test, which I should have done at the beginning of September but life got in the way. When I get the results from the blood test I’ll be off to the walkin clinic again to see about the cauterization and the ask about the ultrasound for my kidney and gallstone issues, which is due about now.
I am not so fussy about blemishes on fruits and vegetables, which I think comes from my early childhood days of foraging on the farm and eating everything and anything right from the ground, bush, or tree. Raw, we ate a lot of raw fruits and vegetables.
How wonderful that DH does the cooking! And baking of bread!
