Sweet

The weather was overcast all weekend, snow fell on Saturday, but only a few isolated flurries. It was good weather for a journey, and on Saturday we left Mist Cottage at about 8:00 a.m., to make our way to a Christmas get together at my Sister-The-Youngest-Girl’s house. The weather was perfect for travelling, both on the way there, and on the way home again, our easiest trip ever in regards to road conditions and traffic.

On Saturday my two sisters, their husbands, my Mom, and Attila and I, sat down to a Christmas feast. There was roast turkey, dressing, four vegetables, and condiments, followed by apple pie, lemon meringue pie, date squares, chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream. My Sister-The-Youngest-Girl cooked the meal, and I helped with the dressing. The meal was cooked without salt, and it was so very delicious, I didn’t miss the salt at all. I think my taste buds have completely adjusted to the low sodium diet, most foods taste good without any salt added. The desserts were my downfall, I had a serving of everything on offer, and enjoyed every single bite! What a good time we had! Mom, my sisters, and I, worked on a jig saw puzzle in the dining room, through the evening. The “fellas” watched a hockey game.

This morning, unable to resist temptation, I enjoyed a serving of each kind of dessert. What a breakfast! At home we don’t keep sweets in the house, and no longer eat dessert, so this was my big chance to “have it all”, so I did, lol.

Over the last month or so I have been working on a pair of slippers to give my mom for Christmas. Her feet get cold sometimes, so I decided she needs foot blankets. I found a pattern and used the same yarn that I purchased to make the water balloons for the Grandbabies.

My sisters, Mom, and I, had our Christmas get together rather early this year, because Mom is heading for Florida, any day now. She will drive from Ontario, Canada, to Florida, by herself. She has done this for many years, except for the last two when she was sorting out health issues. She is ready to roar once again, and is busy getting her gear ready to go. We loved being able to see her before she leaves!

I talked with Luna on the weekend, she recently had a birthday. She is well, and was telling me that they will be spending Christmas in Quebec, because Janus works through Christmas, and he is stationed out of Quebec at the moment, so Luna and Imp and Elf and Tink are going there so they can all be together for Christmas. We might see them as they pass by on their way home after Christmas.

Sounds like you had a lovely family Christmas! And good for you with enjoying the treats of the season!

I also use this time of year to indulge foods that I normally wouldn’t. For example, today when we were grocery shopping I picked up a small bag of “toffee brownie brittle”. They’re thin crisps of brownie with a few toffee bits, and quite good. If not for the time of year, I never would have bought them.

Glad to hear that your mom is ready to roll on her trip South. Wishing her a safe and fun journey!

We will also be traveling this week. We never got to do the 10th anniversary cruise we’d planned last year due to my surgery and recovery, so we’re doing it now. We’ll be leaving early Thursday morning and driving to New York City to catch our ship. We’ll return late Friday the 22nd. We’ll wave at your mom the day we are in Florida, which will be the 17th.

Maggie, I’ve noticed the last several times you’ve posted you’ve listed the post as Uncategorized instead of Journal, and I see you are not getting the responses you normally get. That might be why. Folks might not be getting the email notices that most usually depend upon. Just a heads up, in case it’s an issue.

Glad to hear I could help.

BTW, forgot to say in my last post that your mom’s slippers look really fun. They’re colors are so happy, I know they’d make me smile. Even the picture made me smile. 🙂

While reading the text and seeing the slippers without focusing on them, I thought you’d brought home some of that dessert — an extremely colourful cake!

I’m glad the notification is fixed because I rely on it. In my blogroll on the Golden Grain Farm page, a link to your site is there but it doesn’t work.

I should try changing it.

Ha! I also thought, at first glance, that the slippers were a yummy dessert! They are gorgeous. Did you ever put anti-slip material on the bottoms of them? Walking on rugs would be ok but slick hard floors might be slippery. Or wood stairs. I commend your Mum for having the courage to make such a long trip alone. I used to be like that in my younger days, in between husbands for 10 years, but not anymore! Hope she has a fabulous time.

Still the Lucky Few

Maggie, your mother sounds truly inspirational! You are so lucky to have her as an example of health and longevity! I’m impressed that you are forging ahead, looking after yourself and coming to terms with the developments of the past few weeks. Take good care!

Maggie, it’s an RSS feed thing; not all the websites that update are on WordPress servers. You know more about this stuff than I do, though, so I’ll leave it in your capable hands! As long as I receive your update notifications, I’m happy. -Kate
