I got my hair cut today, shoulder length, about six inches came off. It was a personal occasion, as the last of my natural brown hair fell to the floor. From here and my forever more, my hair is predominantly gray. I asked the stylist to save a lock of my brown hair for me to take home as a keepsake. She did just that, fastening it and placing it carefully in a plastic bag. I have mixed feelings about this turning point, sad that an era has passed, happy to see the new era.
Neither Attila nor I have been sleeping well since Sunday. It is a time of adjustment, to the change in light and all things atmospheric. Our winter weary bodies are struggling to awaken.
Mother Nature did it! On Sunday she turned the page on spring, from waiting-for the-cold-weather-to-end, to this-is-a-perfect-day. It was perfect, over 20C, a light breeze whispering through the grass, blue skies, and sunshine.
We spent Sunday checking the Camp. I am over the moon happy to write these words… no sign of mice in Grace the trailer. Oh my, happy, happy day. Not a dropping to be found anywhere, and the trap was empty. A week ago we were there, and the trap was empty then too. That means two whole weeks mouse-free. My heart flutters just thinking about it. I do hate mice, so very much.
On our visit to the Camp we brought the little generator with us, so that the furnace could be operated. A test run of the furnace was conducted, to find out if there were mouse “odors” in the duct work. All the windows were opened, and the ceiling vents, then the furnace fan was turned on and left on for about half an hour. There were no objectionable odors, thank goodness, and it turns out that pumping air through the trailer and out the open windows and ceiling vents freshened the interior air considerably. Something to keep in mind for next spring. So, the furnace is ready to operate when needed.
It is too cold at night just yet, to want to be at the Camp overnight. But within a few weeks sleeping there will be a viable option.
I had the camera with me, so here are some images from my walk to our little wetland.

What very nice flowers! Cool, a frog! Thanks for sharing photos!
Thanks Joan, things here are so colourless, mostly browns, blacks, and grays, so these little flowers bring a lot of joy relative to their size. The frogs jump into the water as soon as I approach, but I did mange to get a shot of this little guy, just before he took his dive.
Love the pictures, Maggie! Spring is bursting all over the place here in N.J. but we have had lots of rain. Today was the first day I was able to get out and start planting some flowers and cleaning up the yards a bit. This evening the rain has returned!
Thanks Eileen! I think you are a few weeks ahead of us for planting, too bad about the rain. I remember the first time I travelled from north to south in the US, it was winter here in Canada and the trip was like travelling through time into spring, wonderful.
Lovely pictures, Maggie. Congratulations on getting the frog before he leapt.
Farther south, we’ve been enjoying an extended and beautiful spring. Sometimes we only have a few days between cold and hot at the seasonal transitions, we so enjoy these rare extended ones.
Good mouseless news!
Glad you’ve got spring. We’re still waiting. No, it’s here. Looks like it. Just doesn’t feel like it.
Loved the pics.

Thanks Wendy! I was just lucky with the frog, they are quick. it is interesting that they peep so loud until a vehicle or a person comes near the wetland, then suddenly silence falls. We know when predators, such as ducks or otters, are at the pond, because there is a sudden silence.
I too like the gradual spring we are having this year, I don’t mind wearing a light jacket or heavy sweater when I go outside. The hot weather will be here soon enough.
Kate, you know it! The relief I feel in not having to deal with visiting mice in the trailer is significant. It has been years now since they have infiltrated Mist Cottage, i think 2013/14 was the last winter I had to deal with them in here. I will feel it is close to a miracle if we have managed to really keep them out of the trailer!
Spring is a slow transition here too, but at least we aren’t shoveling snow, knock on wood, lol.
Thanks re the pics. Maggie
One thing I’ve learned about all God’s creatures (especially the ones we aren’t in love with, is that just because they are gone at the moment, it doesn’t mean they won’t be back, at another moment! We may be the “superior” creatures of this kingdom, but those varmints are a lot smarter than we give them credit for! But that’s depressing, sorry. We had an assault of the flying large black ants yesterday in the breakfast room! They were everywhere, all in the windows, on the floor, we had a horrid time of it committing mass ant-murder, vacuuming the bodies up, spraying Raid (UGH), airing out the house afterwards. That stink didn’t leave til late in the evening! We were both exhausted afterwards. Me from screaming so much and running (limping) away from the area and Paul from actually having to do all the clean-up work!
Bex, you are so right about God’s creatures! We compete with them for food and shelter, and they are as determined to live as we are. I keep watch for their return! 🙂 It is just reality, not depressing, but a lot of work.
Yuck to the ants! I had my own invasion of paper wasps in the house this spring, luckily no more than two or three at a time. I leave them alone when they are outside my space, but go after them when they venture into my space. Smart ones will stay clear!
A number of positives. Those are great!
We had a turning point ourselves, today. DH’s ex agreed that we could stop paying child support. Considering stepdaughter was almost 19 and will be going into her 6th hear of high school because she won’t go to class, we’re very very glad to see it end.
Thanks Teri! That is wonderful about the child support. They do grow up, although it doesn’t always seem like it will ever happen. DH has been an honourable soul, he deserves you, and it is now his time and yours, you have both earned it. Enjoy!!!!
