Glorious Day!

Here it is, October 30th, the sun is shining, the warm breeze is blowing, and all the windows are open to enjoy the wonder of such a beautiful day.

We have not had to turn the heat on yet, the house is still cozy and warm without it. I put the flannel sheets on the bed yesterday, and got the eiderdown setup. Too soon! It was an uncomfortable night.

We had thought to take a trip out to the Camp today, but had to change our plans when my medical appointment was rescheduled for today. It had been originally scheduled for last Thursday, that was cancelled by the clinic, and rescheduled for tomorrow. The clinic called again earlier this week, cancelled again, and rescheduled for today. As I prepared to leave the house for this appointment, the clinic called and cancelled, rescheduling for tomorrow.

We have given up visiting the Camp during this fine weather, who knows if tomorrow’s medical appointment will be rescheduled for a fourth time, within the span of a week.

So we are enjoying the wonderful weather at home, here at Mist Cottage.

Today Attila harvested broccoli from the garden, which we enjoyed for lunch with a cheese sauce. It is incredible to us that we are eating fresh product from the garden at this time of year. Last week Attila harvested the last of the squash, and I have been enjoying that sliced thin, tossed with olive oil and herbs, then air fried. I also continue to enjoy toasted tomato sandwiches with the garden tomatoes that are slowly ripening in the cardboard box in the basement. These are the last of the summer treats I think, but these days one never knows, the weather is so unpredictable.

Our air fryer suddenly stopped working, all attempts at repair failed. A new air fryer was ordered from Amazon, on sale for $89.00, an older model, which should be fine for us. It will be delivered today. I stay alert when deliveries come to our door, and bring parcels in as soon as they arrive. It should be easy this time, the windows are open. After it arrived I unboxed it, and was pleased to find that our small cake pan fits into it, which will be handy. We will need to give it a try soon. These appliances, based on the two brands we have purchased, are not meant to last, which is a shame, built better they wouldn’t be filling up landfills. Maybe this one will last longer.

Quote

“A facility for quotation covers the absence of original thought.”
Dorothy L. Sayers
1893 – 1957

I had to think about this one! My good friend Paul had a photographic memory, not a good memory, a truly photographic memory, demonstrated time and again. For him it was a blessing, and a curse. He certainly had a great deal of original thought, but often found that quotations best represented his feelings or the situation. So this quotation did not accurately describe him.
Another point that comes to mind are quoted, such as “a stitch in time save nine”. This saying, which is a quotation, says a lot, succinctly, and applies to many situations. It seems to me that someone who has an facility for this type of quotation is merely passing on tried and true wisdom, and does not necessarily indicate the absence of original thought.

Hi, Maggie. Sorry to hear about your playingmusical chairs with a doctor appointment. I hope this one works out.

I’ve been having a week with doctors too, with being in emerge and an overnight in the hospital. Turms out that I had a blocked small intestine, was released, and 2 days later it blocked again. I’ve been in emerge 4 times this week, though I walked out today when I realized they weren’t really going to give me the assurances I wanted. The only thing they could do was use x-rays to see if my intestine looked blocked again, but my symptoms were telling me they weren’t. So, t9day I wnt home and had a few tiny meals. So far, so good!
