A sunny day, a beautiful day.
We went for a walk early this morning and it was still well below freezing. No matter, much of the snow has melted, and the birds are joyous. I still bundled up in my wind proof trousers, my boots, my parka, and a warm hat.
This morning my clean wet laundry was hung out to dry on the back porch, the first time this year. Attila hung his laundry out to dry on the back porch yesterday. Spring is definitely in the air.
We wanted to make a visit to see my Mom and sisters in January. The weather was fine, but we were waiting for an important delivery, which got very complicated and kept us at home for weeks. Then the weather turned nasty, and pretty much stayed that way until last week. So, when the sun came out, and the temperature soared just above freezing, we took the to road.
I don’t think I am able to describe how wonderful it was to see my Mom, we spent as much time with her as we could, which was most of our waking hours. We stayed with my sister-the-youngest girl, and we enjoyed great company, and great food. We had a lovely time visiting with my sister-the-middle girl and her husband. My Mom, and my sisters, delight me. I hated to leave! But Ginger was here at home by himself, so we felt he could only reasonably be expected to tolerate that for a few days.
When we arrived home, I looked around the corner and into the living room, to find Ginger staring back at me. He gave me a tongue wagging I can tell you. I honoured his feelings, listened to his grievances, and kept him company for some time. After he finished expressing himself, he checked to make sure I was sitting in my easy chair, just where I should be, then curled up and went to sleep. Once more, all was well in his world.
Today I baked bread, and made telephone calls that needed to be made. Attila is continuing with the pantry project in the basement, doing a bit of electrical work, and moving things around so that we can hang black out curtains on the window. Light is the enemy of preserved food, and that window is on the south side of the house, lots and lots of sun.

Moms are the best!
Glad you had a wonderful visit with your family! Those times are so wonderful. I know I miss them. Except for a few extended cousins, all my family has been gone for almost 30 years. But at least I had them when I was younger. They were good people.
I had to smile at Ginger giving you a tongue-lashing and then settling in for a nap. I sometimes get similar treatment from our Shetland Sheepdog boy Loki, who is quite demanding about lap time when he wants it.
They sure are SP! Your Mom was a such a wonderful woman.
Thanks Teri, it had been almost a year since I had spent time with them. I feel extremely lucky to have them! Great memories with good people are such a treasure.
Ginger regards me as the chief of staff around here, so when he has a grievance, he comes to me with it. Sometimes I swear Ginger is attempting to communicate with me in English, he responds to me when I talk to him, and uses all kinds of guttural variances. If there are any startling or unfamiliar noises around the place, he looks to me to see if there is cause for alarm, I tell him “everything’s fine”, he curls up, and goes back to sleep. Attila is the soft lap and endless belly rub guy, and Ginger loves it when we are both sitting around talking to one another, as long as he is on Attila’s lap.
Maybe you could teach Ginger to talk. Some cats use word buttons very well. I follow this youtube page. Three cats and the dad, once in a while the mom. Only one cat uses the buttons. @TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks Todd is amazing, and the videos tend to be very soothing.
Todd does sound amazing!
I remember how highly anticipated my oldest daughter’s first words were. She talked in full sentences before she was a year old, it seemed amazing. Once she discovered talking, she practised it day and night, all day and most of the night. Her talking was the first thing I heard in the morning upon waking up, and the last thing I heard before falling asleep at night. I wonder if Ginger would take to the discovery of communication the way she did!
