Attila is limping. He says he hurt his ankle. He spent the morning resting with his foot up, but by lunch time he was itching to be up and about, so up he got and about he went.
It is a cloudy day here, humid, but not unpleasantly hot. The construction at the end of the street seems much louder today, probably because of the atmospheric conditions. It will be strange to sit in the back yard and have the windows of the rental units looking back at us. I hope the units are occupied by reasonable people!
This morning Attila and I took coffee on the back porch. It was raining, gently, and the light breeze made the flowers dance. A Hummingbird moved slowly along the fence, visiting bloom after bloom on the Scarlet Runner Beans. It was oh so peaceful.
Peaches are in season here in Ontario. I love peaches! I sliced five peaches this morning to serve with the pancakes Attila made for breakfast. The pancakes were made with the last of the pancake mix that was purchased two summers ago, because it required no milk or eggs, perishables that would have to be kept in a cooler. Attila’s from-scratch pancakes are much better, and now that we have a propane refrigerator at the Camp, we can easily keep milk and eggs fresh for his from-scratch pancakes.
Last night’s dinner was prepared in the Instant Pot, Sweet and Sour Beef with Rice and Mixed Vegetables. There were enough fresh Scarlet Runner Beans to add to the dish, they were wonderful!
I have to admit that I miss desserts! There are no desserts here at Mist Cottage, I must limit my sugar intake, and it is difficult to keep within bounds, even just having sweetener in my coffee and cereal. But there are times when I feel “let’s blow this popsicle stand”, and yesterday was one of them. Because Attila is limping, I did the grocery shopping yesterday. Attila loves ice cream. Attila was going to have a vacation day today, kinda special. I decided to treat Attila to ice cream. Oh generous me. That sounds very considerate and generous and all, but honestly, I wanted the ice cream. I am owning that. If I hadn’t been craving something sweet, that ice cream would still be in the freezer section at the grocery store. Of course, Attila was very happy to have ice cream! That was the bonus.

Another blogger was talking about peaches this week. I will cut and paste my comment.
I love peaches but something about touching them freaks me out. And not just a little. I can’t even pick one up. Last week I had an apricot that my husband had peeled. There was a small amount of fuzz left and when I bit into it I started wretching. It reminds me of eating a mouse. Even typing this gives me shivers.
I was going to dive in talking about pancakes but Birdie sidetracked me with her peaches comment. Thank goodness peaches don’t make me think of a mouse!! 😛 I do, however, have a very ticklish palate. Whenever I try to eat a peach with skin it tickles so badly I can barely do it. It’s somewhat akin to having a ticklish foot, you just naturally want to jump from the tickle source.
Now pancakes, you’re so lucky Attila makes great pancakes. I love pancakes! Over here, DH makes awesome waffles. Unfortunately, I don’t like waffles as much as I love pancakes.
Hope Attila’s ankle isn’t aggravated by his activity and gets better fast!
Birdie, peach fuzz! For years as a child and teenager, I picked peaches through the whole peach season. Every day, hot and sweaty on the ladder, reaching, picking, reaching again, and that peach fuzz was everywhere! It is just fuzzy when you are dry, but when it gets into your clothes while you are doing heavy work, well you either quit your job or learned to tune it out. I couldn’t quit, so I learned to tune it out. I only did it though, because I had no other choice.
Attila eats peaches with the skins on. Not me, I peel them off!
Teri, peaches would be torture for a ticklis palate. No one in the farming community where I grew up ate peaches with the skins on, probably because once you have spent a day picking them, peach fuzz takes on a whole new meaning.
I love pancakes too, particularly with fresh fruit! Attila’s pancakes are wonderful, one of his specialties. I love waffles too, but Attila doesn’t do waffles. I am now thinking about waffles, gotta get the griddle out and have some with peaches!
I just realized while reading this blog entry that I never eat peaches because I also don’t like the fuzz! I never realized that about myself before. A mouse is apt. Yes… they are like a little round field mouse. One day I was going up to bed and there was a round fuzzy thing sitting on the middle section of the stairs. I called Paul to inspect and it was a field mouse. All fuzzy and probably scared. How the heck did he get in here? We put a glass over him and scooped him up and let him outside.
Bex, peach fuzz is very offputting! Interesting about just realizing that you avoid peaches because of the fuzz 🙂
How wonderful that there was just ONE mouse in your house! We have a lot more than one, and releasing them outside would give them a few minutes of fresh air before they scuttered right back into the house.
You didn’t eat the ice cream??? I’m amazed at your power of resistance! I hope Attila’s ankle feels better soon!
Joan! I hope I haven’t given the wrong impression, the ice cream was for ME! 🙂 I shared it with Attila, oh generous me. LOL It was chocolate, I have no resistance to chcocolate.
Thanks for the good wishes for Attila, he is at the Emergency department right now, has been there for the last two hours, and will call me when he can come home, probably in the next six to eight hours. Emergency Room visits for non-life-threatening but serious issues are uber long here in Ontario, Canada!
