On October 19, 2022 I made our own laundry detergent for the very first time. I wasn’t sure we would like it. Here it is February 22, 2025, and there are only one or two loads worth of that first batch left in the jug. It lasted about two years and four months. We do like it.
After procrastinating for weeks, today was finally the day to make another batch. It only took about an hour to process the ingredients. The mixture sits in the full five gallon bucket in the bathtub now, and there it stays until tomorrow morning. Then I’ll mix it thoroughly and pour it into our recycled laundry detergent jugs, and we will be good for another two years.
It smells very clean in the house today.
I need to make more Chocolate Muffins for my breakfasts today. I baked bread yesterday, sliced it this morning, so Attila has lots of homemade bread to make his delicious croutons. We really enjoy these low sodium croutons on our green salads.
Attila is banging away in the basement, the shelves are almost completed. They are very, very, very sturdy. They will protect our jars from earthquakes, and keep all our full and empty jars in one place. The bottom shelf will hold many of our five gallon buckets of dry goods. Attila will place those on pull out shelves, using castors, so that I can pull them out to access that food storage. I should not lift more than 20 pounds, so this strategy will give me full access to everything in the pantry.
It is a busy day here at Mist Cottage.

I find this plays true with my youngest child, and me, a refreshing quality.
But oh my that temper, watch out!
It sounds like a peacefully productive day! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Thank you Joan, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
