I have a few of these, great passions written in cipher.
These letters required a cooling off period before being sent, and in the end the decision was made to put them away, let the universe use the passion in its own way.
Happening upon one of these letters the other day, I felt deep gratitude for the words, that so clearly brought the depths to the surface. Writing can bring such clarity.
Our day included a trip to the doctor’s office to have sutures removed from my leg, then to the grocery store, and then to the frozen food outlet to buy more cod for our Cod Curry meals.
We first tried the Cod Curry recipe with the called for coconut cream. But there was just to much saturated fat in the dish. After considering several different solutions, we purchased an unsweetened coconut milk beverage, and used that for today’s dinner. This reduced the total saturated fat in the dish from 29 g to 11 g. Consuming 5.5 g of saturated fat each is acceptable. We loved the Cod Curry with the coconut milk just as much as the original recipe.
Cod Curry is our new culinary obsession!
It rained off and on all day here, we were out walking in it several times. It was a light rain, allowing the just-above-freezing temperature to penetrate our protective layer of clothing and warmth. It was strangely peaceful, the sound of raindrops on our parkas dominated, as few vehicles passed, and there were no other pedestrians.
A strange event occurred this morning. A red squirrel was hit by a car just at the end of our driveway, it died instantly. Soon the crows were enjoying a feast. Eventually though, our neighbourhood canine Dennis the Menace discovered the remains, and promptly gobbled them up. Dennis runs loose and free, barking and chasing pedestrians, including us, upsetting other dogs on leashes, and giving his owners a chance to walk all over other people’s yards in the endless quest to loudly order him home.
Some day poor old Dennis is going to get himself into serious trouble. He darts out at passing cars, eats anything he can find, and wanders further and further from home as the weeks pass. We hear the coyotes yipping, a pack of them, close to here. As annoying as Dennis can be, it is a sad situation.
I dislike passive aggression, his owners are not cherished neighbours. There are bylaws here to prevent dogs from running around loose, but one would have to lodge an official complaint. This is exactly the underlying intention of Dennis’s humans, searching for attention and conflict. A willing victim has not yet appeared, and even if they did, it would probably not deter Dennis’s adventures. We hope for the best for Dennis, but are not optimistic.

That’s so sad. Sadly, I’m not optimistic, either.
Teri, it is sad. We are tolerant of Dennis the dog, his humans are at fault in this situation. I had similar neighbours at a home I lived in during my first marriage, they mistreated their dog, and were horrid people.
I was re-reading this post and did want to voice a caution about cod. I’ve noticed that people who get too fixated on fish can develop high levels of mercury in their bodies, even very rich people who presumably can get very high quality fish. So, just wanted to encourage moderation with the cod.
(We love all things curry, but I’ve never had a fish curry. Might have to try that some day.)
Teri, your cautions are well advised. We would eat the Cod Curry at most once a week. We also sometimes have tuna salad sandwiches, using tinned tuna, and even less often salmon salad sandwiches using tinned salmon, or salmon patties for burgers. Occasionally we enjoy baked haddock. I will look all of these fish up for mercury levels at this web site, and go from there:

As it turns out, if I calculate mercury for a week where we eat a LOT of fish (for us), we don’t come anywhere close to the recommended limits for mercury. It is a rare week that we eat that much fish, this weeks will be one of those weeks, only because we had to travel to Toronto for medical appointments, and had to pack meals, tuna sandwiches were an easy choice. And we had two meals with fish this week, cod and haddock, which is unusual.
