March Winds in April

Yesterday we had snow, sleet, then into the night we had rain and a thunderstorm. We went for a walk after dinner, and trudged along on a thick layer of wet and slippery sleet. Sleet stung our faces, and bounced off our parkas. We were wearing full winter regalia.

This afternoon it is sunny and 16C. I am sitting on the porch in a light jacket, enjoying the weather. The wind is strong, whistling through the trees, grapevines quiver and sway, as does the rose bush and all other plant matter that rises above the ground at this time of year. I am writing on my laptop, and have to hold the lid from time to time to prevent the wind from causing it damage. Eventually I close it up and give up on my typing, to just sit in the sun and the wind and feel the mildness and wildness of it all.

Attila continues with the basement project. He is planning three new ceiling light fixtures in the food storage area, that is yet to come. Right now he is moving furniture. I will wait until tonight to go and have a look at what he is up to. The work is being done according to a plan we developed together, and which is tweaked from time to time as improvements become obvious.

Quote

“The weird thing about houses is that they almost always look like nothing is happening inside of them, even though they contain most of our lives.”
John Green
1977 –

I often think similar thoughts, when we go out for walks, rows of houses, walls and windows, with no visible signs of humans, from the point of view of a pedestrian. Each dwelling embraces some version of reality, hidden away behind a wall

Good quote! Yes, so much of what makes our lives is contained in our homes. I’m content to be a homebody. I look forward to progress photos of your basement.
