I received news of the passing of my cousin today, my heart is heavy with the loss. I am thinking of her husband and her son, such a tremendous loss. I am thinking of her younger sister, who travelled far to be with her, such a comfort. I am thinking of her oldest sister who could not make the journey in time, due to circumstances beyond her control, so difficult. I am thinking of my youngest sister who helped my cousin’s family during this difficult time.
My cousin was nine years my junior, I remember what a charming baby she was. I loved to carry her around, and play with her. We were a tribe, we cousins. During our adult lives our connections have varied, but for me at least, the bond has never faded. I am the oldest of the cousins, it is hard to lose people I’ve known and loved since they were born.
We were fifteen cousins on my Mom’s side of the family, now we are ten.
Goodbye my beautiful cousin, you will be missed.
